A 17-year-old Hope is a junior in high school and thinking about college in 2034. The debt is approaching its all-time record of 106% of the economy. To make matters worse, the Social Security trust fund just ran out of money, causing Hope’s grandparents to see their Social Security benefits cut by 23%. Hope’s parents are helping to support them instead of saving for Hope’s college.
In two years, Hope will have to take out large student loans with interest rates rising rapidly because of the mounting debt. Hope is feeling uncertain about her future.
