While many special interests are frantically telling lawmakers their tax preferences should be kept in a rewrite of the tax code, two organizations are taking to the airwaves with the message that tax reform must be fiscally responsible.
The Peter G. Peterson Foundation is running a television ad with a simple message, “Tax reform should grow the economy. Not the debt.” The ad explains that tax cuts that are not paid for will increase the national debt, which means that future generations, such as our children, will ultimately pay for them.
Meanwhile, Citizens for Responsible Tax Reform is on the air with a reminder that many lawmakers have denounced the debt in the past, but now Congress is considering tax cuts that will add to it. The spot encourages lawmakers to keep their word and not add to the debt with tax cuts, which will hurt the economy and leave more debt to our kids.
Hopefully, Congress will listen to these important messages.
You can send a message of your own by writing your representatives today to tell them not to leave the tax cut bill to our children by adding to the national debt.
